Pre-Trial Services

Pretrial Services were established in Cumberland County on May 15, 2023, under the guidance of the President Judge. The primary purpose of Pretrial Services is to support the bail decision-making process, particularly assisting Magisterial District Judges and Common Pleas Judges by conducting screenings of individuals charged with criminal offenses to inform bail determinations.

When an individual is released from custody pending further proceedings and is ordered to participate in Pretrial Services, a designated pretrial probation officer provides supervision within the community setting.

Supervised release with specific conditions aims to ensure that individuals are compliant with bail release conditions and appear for their scheduled court hearings while minimizing the risk of re-arrest.
