Sex Offenders Unit

The Sex Offenders Unit was developed in 1997 to address the growing concerns of sex abuse in our country and community. The sex offenders supervision program was designed to follow the American Probation and Parole Association's recommended "containment approach" in managing this offender population.
Sexual Offenders Unit
The unit consists of one specialized probation/parole officer with extensive and continuous training through American Probation and Parole Association (APPA), Pennsylvania Association on Probation, Parole, and Corrections (PAPPC), Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole (PBPP), and Sexual Offenders Assessment Board (SOAB).

The Sex Offenders Unit supervises offenders who have committed sex offenses in Cumberland County and offenders who are currently Cumberland County residents that were convicted of sex offenses in other counties. These cases are managed by providing surveillance, monitoring, and treatment. The probation/parole officer works in conjunction with treatment providers to assist in reeducating the offender. The officer assesses the overall status of the offender for specialized treatment and intervention needs, develops and implements intervention strategies necessary to reduce criminal behavior, and meets regularly with offenders in the office and in the community. The officer also monitors the progress of offenders in treatment or therapy, prepares court-ordered presentence investigation reports, schedules violation hearings, and performs duties related to Megan's Law and DNA requirements.

In addition to the standard conditions of probation, parole, and intermediate punishment, sex offenders must comply with the following special conditions:

  1. May not consume alcohol.
  2. May not possess pornographic materials in any form.
  3. May not access the internet.
  4. May not have any contact with minor children under 18 years of age.
  5. May not be employed in any capacity that involves children.
  6. Must comply with counseling and treatment recommendations.
  7. May not frequent places where minors congregate.
  8. Must submit a daily activity log to probation/parole officer if directed.
  9. Must submit to a polygraph examination if ordered.
