Community Service

Community service hours completed 2013-2015
From 2013 to 2015, 87% of juveniles involved with the Cumberland County Juvenile Court were ordered to complete community service hours.  Almost 99% of the hours assigned to those youth were completed before they were discharged from probation.  The above chart displays the total number of hours completed each year by all juveniles under supervision in Cumberland County.

Restitution

Total Restitution for 2013 - 2015
From 2013 to 2015, approximately 24% of juveniles involved with the Cumberland County Juvenile Court were ordered to pay restitution.  Almost 97% of restitution owed was paid back by juveniles from 2013 through 2015.  The above chart breaks down the restitution paid by juveniles and restitution paid out through the Juvenile Probation Department's restitution fund.  In the last three years over $74,000 has been collected for victims of juvenile crime in Cumberland County.

Assessment

YLS Breakdown 2013 - 2015
From 2013 through 2015, Cumberland County Juvenile Probation completed over 1,600 YLS assessments on juveniles involved with the juvenile justice system.  The chart above displays the breakdown based on a juvenile's risk level.  For this 3 year period, there was a small increase year over year for juveniles who would be considered "Low Risk."  Conversely these was a small decrease year over year for juveniles who would be considered "Moderate Risk."  "High Risk" juveniles remain a small but steady portion of the youth involved with the juvenile justice system in Cumberland County.

Recidivism

Recidivism has been tracked for the Cumberland County Juvenile Probation office since 2009.  The above chart looks at juveniles involved with the juvenile probation office and if they were arrested, convicted, or placed after discharge from probation supervision.  All three variables are decreasing over time.  Utilizing the Balance and Restorative Justice Philosophy and with continued guidance of the Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Strategy, Juveniles are less likely to commit new crimes after engaging in individualized interventions based on specific areas of need supported by the Cumberland County Juvenile Probation office.
