Victim Awareness Curriculum

Since 2005 Cumberland County Juvenile Probation Officers have been facilitating Victim Awareness Groups.  To date approximately 1,300 youth have successfully completed the curriculum.    Currently, the Victim Awareness Group is co-facilitated in a one day session by a Juvenile Probation Officer and the Juvenile Victim Advocate.  The facilitators work with the youth challenging them to recognize how their behaviors have brought harm upon their victim and community both directly and indirectly.  Juveniles learn how the victims and community have been harmed physically, emotionally, and financially by criminal actions.  The group has a restorative approach.  Victim Awareness Group allows youth to understand ways they can make amends for the things that they have done and repair the harm.
