The Project Search program is a collaboration between business partners, job coaches and the Cumberland-Perry Office of Intellectual and Development Disabilities, and provides work experience and training to individuals with a developmental disability.

Throughout the program, the participants will spend their first two weeks learning soft employment skills, such as searching for employment, the job application process and interview tips. During the third week of the program, participants begin their first of three, 10 week internships. Participants begin each day with a one hour class, then spend four hours working at their internship and end the day with another one hour debrief.

Various County departments are participating in the program, including the County's Mailroom, Commissioners' Office, Children and Youth, MH/IDD, the Library System and the Facilities department.

Nationally, Project Search has an 80% success rate in assisting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities find a job. By the end of the 32 week program, the goal is to have each participant employed, with the hope of providing them the opportunity to be more independent and more involved in their community.
