[ARCHIVED] Secretary of Aging to visit Shippensburg Center

Senior citizens at the Shippensburg Senior Center will get a little something extra with their lunch on Tuesday — a visit from Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Brian Duke.

Secretary Duke will not only visit and speak with the seniors, he will be looking in on two activities taking place as well as touring the future home of the center in the Community Center at 115 N. Fayette Street.

The Community Center, which has been vacant and in need of extensive renovations, was recently leased by the Borough of Shippensburg long-term for use as a Senior Community Center and was awarded a Department of Aging grant for renovations which is the first step in getting the building into move-in condition.

The estimate for phase 1 is $200,000, of which approximately $155,000 has been secured. Messiah Lifeways is expected to be announcing a capital campaign to raise the remainder of the money along with additional funds for additional renovations.
