Active Aging Week Kicks Off Saturday
Carlisle, PA: Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm The Point at Carlisle Plaza will host Cumberland County’s Kickoff celebration of Active Aging Week, a week filled with activities for seniors that promote an active, healthy lifestyle.
Saturday’s event will feature a local ‘celebrity’ Wii bowling tournament; a demonstration by the 2012 Armed Forces Tae Kwon Do Team, led by MSG Kevin Williams; a Zumba Gold demonstration, and a shuffleboard exhibition.
Free blood pressure screenings by Carlisle Regional Medical, chair massages by HACC, and a fall prevention seminar by the PA Division of the American Trauma Society will also be available.
"This event demonstrates our commitment to individual health through fun and fitness," says Dave Miller, Deputy Director of Cumberland County’s Aging and Community Services.
“Baby Boomers are beginning to transform outdated concepts about ‘seniors’ into the new realities of an active aging lifestyle, optimizing their physical, social and mental well-being by staying active, and Active Aging Week is the perfect opportunity to try something new like Tai Chi at one of the county’s active aging senior centers.”
Information will also be available from local Active Aging Centers, the Office of Aging and Community Services, and Cumberland County Transportation Department.
