[ARCHIVED] Positive Mosquito Samples - Carlisle Borough Cumberland County

One sample in Penn Township (June 7) and 2 samples in Carlisle Borough (one on June 14 and one on June 23) have been lab tested and determined to be Positive for West Nile Virus.

It cannot be overemphasized how important it is for homeowners to check their own properties. When finding objects or items around the home that contain water, the simplest and most economical solution is to empty water from containers and render it so that it will not hold water again. If that is not possible, there are retail products that the homeowner can purchase at a lawn and garden store to place in the water that will inhibit mosquito growth.

The key to successful mosquito and West Nile Virus control is to find and treat or remove mosquito breeding habitat (stagnant water).

Artificial water habitats include but are not limited to:
• Discarded containers, buckets, yard toys
• Bird baths, ornamental ponds, pool covers
• Clogged roof gutters, storm drains
• Unused uncovered boats, wheelbarrows, ceramic pots
