Cumberland County to Recognize Centenarians

Cumberland County Aging and Community Services is continuing a program to recognize residents of the County as they turn 100. The recognition will come in the form of a proclamation from the Board of County Commissioners and will coincide with their 100th birthday.

In order to gather information on the County’s oldest residents, the County will again survey all long term care facilities in the County. In addition, anyone who knows of a County resident who is approaching their 100th birthday is invited to send the name, address and birth date of the individual to Cumberland County Aging and Community Services, 16 West High Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or email the information at dgraja@ccpa.net. Cumberland County Commissioners said that “It will be important for us to have accurate and timely information regarding our oldest residents so that we can provide them with the recognition they deserve.” It is hoped that information can be received at least two months prior to the actual birth date.

In addition to recognition by the Commissioners, the County will also make a connection with the White House Greetings Office to request that each centenarian receive a letter from the President. The information will also be shared with our legislative delegation.

The Commissioners indicated that since Census data only provides the number of citizens 85 and over, the County is very interested in identifying and recognizing Cumberland County’s oldest residents.
