Cumberland County Vector Control does collect avian samples and sends them to the DEP WNV laboratory for PCR testing.
This positive collection in York County once again confirms that West Nile Virus will be present throughout the Commonwealth in 2009. This sample is the earliest reported evidence of West Nile Virus found in the Commonwealth since 2003. The 2003 sample was also a bird and collected on April 29th.
