Cumberland County gets an early start in its annual salute of fallen veterans.
The county Department of Veterans Affairs has provided over 17,000 American flags to veterans’ organizations and cemetery associations to decorate the graves of veterans in 120 cemeteries.
The flags were placed on veterans’ graves prior to the Memorial Day holiday and will remain until the first working day after the Fourth of July holiday.
This period is mandated by Pennsylvania law and paid for by Cumberland County taxpayers. Below is a list of Memorial Day events scheduled in the county. Because it includes only those organizations that responded to a request from the county veterans’ department, it may not be a complete list.
