[ARCHIVED] Cumberland County issues weight restrictions for two bridges

Sample Bridge 2

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners announced today that Sample and Roush bridges will have new reduced weight restrictions after recent inspections revealed structural deficiencies. Roush Bridge, which carries Dickinson School Road over the Yellow Breeches Creek in Dickinson Township, will now have a 17-ton weight limit, with a 23-ton limit for combination vehicles. Sample Bridge, which carries Sample Bridge Road across the Conodoguinet Creek in Silver Spring Township, has a new weight limit of 23-tons and 33 tons for combinations. Both bridges are non-composite prestressed concrete box beam bridges. The new weight postings are in response to required annual inspections designed to proactively identify and address structural deficiencies. The bridges were found to have deteriorating beams, which decreased their ability to safely carry all legal loads.
