[ARCHIVED] Line Painting on I-81 Scheduled for Friday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 24, 2018

Line Painting Operation Scheduled through I-81 Construction Project in Cumberland County on Friday

- Traffic Lines will be repainted between Exit 57 (Route 114) and Exit 59 (Route 581)

Harrisburg, PA – Warmer temperatures on Friday, January 26, will give the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation the opportunity to paint new traffic lines through the construction project on Interstate 81 between Exit 57 (Route 114) and Exit 59 (Route 581) in eastern Cumberland County. This portion of I-81 is still part of a construction zone, and the purpose of the line painting operation is to make the demarcation between the travel lanes clearer and more visible to motorists. Motorists are advised that, starting at 9 AM on Friday and continuing until about mid-to-late afternoon, they should expect to encounter traffic lane restrictions and a slow-moving painting operation in one or both directions of the interstate. Motorists should be alert to this line painting operation and slow down when approaching and traveling through the work area – for their safety, as well as for the safety of the work crews. The intent is to finish the painting operation before the late afternoon commuter rush hour, but it is possible that the operation may take longer to wrap up.

The portion of I-81 between Exits 57 and 59 was widened to three lanes last fall in a construction project that started in the fall of 2016. The project will be finished this spring after the blacktop pavement is milled and repaved. More durable pavement markings will then be applied to the roadway.
