[ARCHIVED] E-recycling Center Hours to Change, Will Be Closed on Veterans Day

The Cumberland County Electronics Recycling Center will change its operating hours in early November. Starting Tuesday, November 7, the center will be open from noon – 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesday, and 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The new hours are to reflect the time and season changes.

The center will also be closed on Saturday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

The e-recycling center continues to exceed all expectations. To date, 2137 customers have brought their electronics to the center for recycling. In addition, more than 200000 pounds of recyclables has been collected, which is two-thirds of the projected 300,000 pounds anticipated to be collected for the entire year. The center has seen all manner of materials, from vacuums, microwaves, computer equipment and radios, to its most popular item – televisions.

“The popularity of the center continues to grow, which speaks to the need for electronics recycling,” said Justin C. Miller, coordinator of the County’s recycling programs. “We get a lot of televisions. So far, the heaviest television that has come in was 300 pounds.”

Through the end of October, the Electronics Recycling Center is open to the public from 2 - 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The center accepts televisions, computers and accessories, mobile devices, entertainment equipment, data center equipment and cable equipment. Please be aware that due to shipping requirements, televisions must be in one piece when brought for recycling; we are not able to accept a disassembled TV.

A fee of $0.50 per pound of electronics recycled is charged to help offset the County’s costs for collecting, packaging, loading, shipping and recycling the materials. The recycler receives $0.41 per pound of materials and the County covers all its costs with the remaining $0.09 per pound. Cash, credit and debit card payments are accepted. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept personal checks. For those planning on recycling an unusually large load, please call in advance so accommodations can be made. In order to best serve the public, please be aware the recycling center is under 24 hour video surveillance and illegal dumping regulations will be enforced.
