ConstructionUpdate for Route 233 Bridge over Conodoquinet Creek
Cumberland
County Bridge to be replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership
Harrisburg,PA – Construction
for the Route 233 (Doubling Gap Road) bridge over Conodoquinet Creek at theLower Mifflin-North Newton Township line in Cumberland County, is scheduled to
begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT)Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will
allow PennDOT to remove it from the state’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Motorists
should expect a traffic pattern change on Wednesday, August 23. Duringthis time, an alternating traffic pattern will be controlled by temporary
traffic signals. Construction is anticipated to be complete in March,2018.
In the
event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule maychange.
This bridge
is referred to as JV-239 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced underthe Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture
partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entireproject.
The Rapid
Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOTand Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which
PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more
quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impacton motorists.
