Cumberland County is currently in the process of replacing Leidigh Bridge. The County is considering a superstructure replacement that will allow the job to be completed in a timely manner at a decreased cost. In order to determine if such a project is feasible, engineers will need to drill core borings in the existing piers to see if there are any voids/backfill material or if they are solid concrete.
The closure of the bridge is required to conduct borings from the bridge surface instead of conducting them in the water. If done from the water, the County would need a DEP permit which would result in a several month delay.
