Weather has delayed evening mosquito control spraying scheduled for parts of several municipalities.
As soon as there is a break from the rain we will resume evening control sprays.
Evening Control Program Map
Vector Control has been hindered in our efforts by the intermittent rainy weather on 3 fronts.
1) Creek flooding is creating temporary ponding forming new reproduction habitat
2) Rain prevents the daytime application of treatment to water where mosquitoes are reproducing
3) Rain prevents evening treatment spraying for adult mosquitoes:
- Mosquitoes not flying in rain and thus not susceptible
- Treatment product droplets are knocked to ground and ineffective
Prevention
Wear repellants, long sleeves, and pants
◦Take extra precaution around dusk, the peak of female mosquito feeding
◦Remove mosquito breeding habitats around the yard
◦Secure window screens and doors so the mosquito can't find a way into houses
