Two further legal complications have developed in the last two days in the ongoing eminent domain case at the McCormick Farm in Silver Spring Township, putting additional roadblocks in the way of Cumberland Valley School District’s attempt to take the historic land to build new school facilities.
On Sunday, Gov. Tom Wolf signed House Bill 2468, which would create a more burdensome legal bar for eminent domain cases on land that is subject to a preservation easement, as the McCormick tract is.
Further, on Monday, the Cumberland County Commissioners, via the county solicitor’s office, issued a strongly worded warning to the school district regarding questionable information presented during the district’s May 24 “town hall” meeting regarding the controversy.
