Cumberland County Veterans Affairs is encouraging veterans with past claims of service- related traumatic brain injuries (TBI) to contact their office due to recent changes in benefits that have resulted from a decision by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald has granted equitable relief to more than 24,000 Veterans following a national review of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) medical examinations conducted in connection with disability compensation claims processed between 2007 and 2015.
This decision will allow the VA to offer new TBI examinations to Veterans whose initial examinations for TBI were not conducted by one of four designated medical specialists and provides veterans the opportunity to have their claims reprocessed. This change comes as the medicine around TBI is rapidly evolving and more research has become available.
Veterans with past claims of service-related TBI or with questions regarding these changes should contact Cumberland County Veterans Affairs by calling 717-240-6178 or emailing vetaffairs@ccpa.net. For more information on this department visit https://www.ccpa.net/130/Veterans-Affairs.
