2023 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program
Appointments required and a fee of $0.55/lb will be charged. Read on for more details and a list of frequently asked questions. Participants must sign up for an appointment in advance. Appointment slots are available in 15 minute increments and are designed for operational efficiencies (i.e. smaller numbers at start, middle, and end to better accommodate set up, lunch, and tear down). All acceptable material will be weighed as is and each customer will be charged $0.55 per pound for disposal. Pre-registration will help control traffic flow and reduce congestion. Each event will be limited to the number of registrants listed (400). Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Cumberland County residents only.

Frequently Asked Questions
Cash and credit/debit cards are accepted. Sorry, no checks. The cash fee for HHW disposal is $0.55/pound. There is an additional 2.3% convenience fee for credit/debit card users. Both types of cards have a minimum convenience fee charge of $1.00.
How will my total HHW disposal bill be determined?
All of your HHW will be weighed on a certified floor scale. The total weight of your HHW will be multiplied by 0.55 to determine your cash price. If using a credit or debit card, the cash price will be multiplied by 1.023 to arrive at your total bill. The minimum credit and debit card convenience fee is $1.00. The total weight of your HHW and the total bill will be presented to you before payment is accepted.
Will you offer refunds if I change my mind afterwards?
All sales are final. No refunds will be offered after payment is made.
Why are you charging a fee to dispose of HHW when I already pay taxes?
Fees are required to help pay for the costs of this program. Cumberland County has never used general fund tax dollars for its Recycling & Waste program expenses. Only those who choose to use the program will be required to pay for it through the fees that we charge.
We can accommodate a request to get a gas can back, but you will have to wait until the gasoline can be poured off.
Absolutely not! Leaving HHW at the recycling center during closed hours is considered illegal dumping. High resolution security cameras have been installed in multiple locations around the facility to identify illegal dumpers. Illegal dumpers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Who is eligible to use the HHW program?
Cumberland County residents and small businesses (limited to 2,200 pounds and less).
What if I have a lot of HHW?
You may be asked to unload in a separate area.
How else can I dispose of HHW?
Click here for additional disposal information.
What happens to my HHW after I drop it off?
A licensed hazardous waste company will be on site to receive, sort, package, load and transport all collected HHW off site to an approved disposal facility. Treatment methods include fuels blending, recycling, incineration, neutralization, and reuse.
