Volunteer Opportunities

Overview

We are in need of registered voters to serve as Election Officials on Election Day. More than 1,000 workers are needed to work at the polls each election. Election Officials are compensated. Positions may include: Judge of Elections, Inspector of Elections, Clerk & Machine Operators.

Cumberland County Poll Worker Training

Duties to Include

  • Opening and closing the polls (6:00 a.m. until results have been tallied, usually between 9 - 10 p.m.)
  • Picking up supplies from the county office
  • Attending training class(es) at county office
  • Registering and signing in voters
  • Instructing voters on the process of voting while in the polling place
  • Returning election results to the county office after the close of the polls

To serve as an Election Official, you must:

  • Be a registered voter in Cumberland County
  • NOT be a federal, state or county employee
  • Be able to work two days per year (spring and fall)
  • Enjoy meeting other people and serving the public
  • Be detail-oriented, able to follow instructions, and not easily distracted
