1. Are there newer batteries available?

Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries are being replaced with newer technology that lasts longer and is safer on the environment. Lithium (Li) is the chemistry that most new radios are coming with. There are instructions on care included with the radio. Lithium batteries do not require conditioning or analyzing like the Ni-MH did. Li batteries are lighter and will provide a longer duty cycle compared to the Ni-MH.

If converting older model portables from Ni-MH to Li batteries, contact Harris or a dealer to provide you information on what is needed to make your chargers compatible.
