Cumberland-Perry Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition

The Cumberland-Perry Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (SAPC) grew out of the Cumberland County DUI Advisory Board in 2005. SAPC includes a wonderful cross-section of people from human service agencies, law enforcement entities, educational settings, and the general community.

Mission

SAPC's mission is to “strengthen Cumberland and Perry Counties’ capacity to prevent substance abuse through innovative prevention efforts.”  We know that it is necessary to involve the whole community in this effort, but it is also important to have more focused goals.

Focus

This year the spotlight has been on prescription and over the counter (OTC) drug abuse. Activities have included: (1) developing a community presentation program on the dangers of prescription and OTC drug abuse, strategies for prevention, proper disposal practices, and resources for help if needed; (2) designing a campaign to educate pharmacies and their customers about the same issues; and (3) a Town Hall meeting focusing on underage drinking, prescription and OTC drug use.

Meetings

The Coalition meets the third Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. during the months of February, April, June, August, October and December at the Cumberland County Human Services Building. You can also download a copy of the Coalition meeting schedule through the Document Center.  If you would like to join SAPC, please call the Commission for more information.
