The Cumberland County Street to Streams Program was created through the Building Bridges Initiative in August 2007. In 2010, the Street to Streams completed its inaugural event. This program consisted of 10 at risk youth and 10 volunteers from the Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited Program along with support from employees from Children & Youth Services, the Juvenile Probation Department, Cumberland/ Perry Drug & Alcohol Commission and the Mental Health/Intellectuals with Developmental Disabilities office. The purpose of Street to Streams is to utilize flying fishing to bring together youth with positive mentors to help build self-esteem, to provide a positive extra-curricular activity, and to teach the youth the importance of environmental conservation. Street to Streams also provides awareness of some of the great opportunities that are available throughout Cumberland County.
